American Idol Promo Story: Desert Regional neurologist explains Tourette Syndrome

Georgeta Varga, MD, medical director of Desert Regional Medical Center’s Movement Disorders Program, was interviewed about Tourette Syndrome by News Channel 3 Anchor Tamara Damante in a piece on American Idol hopeful James Durbin, who has been diagnosed with Tourette Syndrome. Varga spoke about the effects of the disorder, the potential treatments and how those with Tourette Syndrome will sometimes experience relief from symptoms when they are doing something that requires intense concentration or creativity, including artistic pursuits such as a musical performance. Varga is part of the hospital’s Institute of Clinical Orthopedics and Neurosciences and is board certified in neurology and psychiatry.
